Scrapbook Basics
Have you heard of scrapbooking, but just aren't sure where to begin? Here is a quick guide to the scrapbook basics that you need to get started with your very own scrapbook project!
Scrapbooking is simply a method of preserving and presenting your photos and memoirs. Once you have a few scrapbook basics - you are ready to tackle any scrapbooking project.
The scrapbook basics that you must have to get started with a scrapbook are:
- Photos or memorabilia - these are the items you want to scrapbook! Scrapbooking is about preserving your memories, so take the time to choose photos or memoirs that are meaningful to you and your family.
- An acid free, lignin free album - there are a LOT of choices online or at craft stores. Learn Crafts Online highly recommends the Creative Memories albums.
- Page protectors - to protect the pages in your album (no fingerprints!)
- Photo-safe adhesive - look online or at craft stores for one that appeals to you.
- Black pigma ink pen - for your journaling
- Scissors
Once you've gathered your six scrapbook basics, you are ready to start the fun - it's time to scrap! The first step in scrapbooking is to organize your photos and memoirs. You can sort your photos chronologically or by theme or by another method of your choice. It's completely up to you.
After you have your photos sorted, it's time to plan out your page. The simplest way to plan a page is to place your photos on the album page and move them around as desired until you find a layout that appeals to you. You can use your scissors to crop (cut) your photos, if desired. Once you've found a layout that you like, it's time to use your photo-safe adhesive and glue your photos on the album page. Spend a few minutes writing about the photos (this is your journaling). When you've finished journaling and have the photos glued on, you are ready to slide on a page protector and that's it! Just like that, you have your first album page completed. Easy, wasn't it?
With the six scrapbook basics - photos, album, page protectors, photo-safe adhesive, black ink pen and scissors - you are all set to start a scrapbook! After you've mastered the scrapbook basics, feel free to start checking out all the great embellishments out there, they are LOTS of fun!
